Yard Waste Program

Included in the annual cost, we will provide you with a 95 gallon yard waste cart – property of Walters Recycling (this cart is similar to your garbage cart). In addition to your cart you may use Compostable bags or various types of reusable yard waste bags for extra class clippings.

These bags can be found at numerous hardware, grocery, and home improvement stores.*

We can only take up to 15 additional bags per week.  If you have more than 15 bags set out, they will be picked up the following week.

You must be a Walters garbage customer to receive our yard waste collection service.

Minnesota Statues 115A.03 Subd 38 defines yard waste as “garden wastes, leaves, lawn cuttings, weeds, shrub and tree waste, and pruning’s.”

Yard Waste Collection Services

Walters offers an optional weekly yard waste collection program for an annual fee. Yard waste will be picked up on your regularly scheduled garbage collection day starting April 5th and ending the last week in November (weather permitting). Branches must be 3 feet or less in length and tied in bundles no more than eighteen inches in diameter.

We can only take up to 15 additional bags per week.  If you have more than 15 bags set out, they will be picked up the following week.

Minnesota State Law prohibits disposing of yard waste into your garbage. By utilizing Walters’ Yard Waste Collection Service, your yard waste can be used to enrich gardens, improve soil conditions, be used as a soil additive, enhance soil texture, increase the ability of soil to absorb air and water, suppress weed growth, decrease erosion and reduce the need to apply chemical fertilizers.

Regular mowing and leaving the clippings on your grass provides the roots with the needed shade and equals 1 chemical fertilizing per season. A lawn with a good build-up of grass clippings and mulched leaves also requires less water. Since most of us in residential areas water our lawns with city water, we could save money on our water bills as well as the cost of chemical fertilizer.
