Our Services

Yard Waste

Minnesota State Law prohibits disposing of yard waste into your garbage.  By utilizing Walters’ Yard Waste Collection Service, your yard waste can be used to enrich gardens, improve soil conditions, be used as a soil additive, enhance soil texture, increase the ability of soil to absorb air and water, suppress weed growth, decrease erosion and reduce the need to apply chemical fertilizers.

Regular mowing and leaving the clippings on your grass provides the roots with the needed shade and equals 1 chemical fertilizing per season.  A lawn with a good build-up of grass clippings and mulched leaves also requires less water.  Since most of us in residential areas water our lawns with city water, we could save money on our water bills as well as the cost of chemical fertilizer.

Walters offers an optional Yard Waste Collection Services for an annual fee, please call for current pricing. Your yard waste will be picked up on your regularly scheduled garbage collection day starting in April and ending the last week in November, weather permitting.  Branches must be 3 feet or less in length and tied in bundles no more than eighteen inches in diameter.

Seasonal extra bag limits apply during peak compost season (Spring and Fall). To find out what the extra bag limit is per week please call our customer service department at (763) 780-8464.  Bags that exceed the extra bag limit are subject to $3.50 pick up charge per bag.

Included in the annual cost is the use of a 94 gallon yard waste cart (similar to your garbage cart). You may also use your own cart, compostable bags or various types of reusable bags.  These items can be found at numerous hardware, grocery, and home improvement stores. You must be a Walters garbage customer to receive our yard waste service.

In order to keep our yard waste program 100% compostable, plastic yard waste bags cannot be taken.

To sign up for Yard Waste Collection Services, call our office at 763-780-8464.

Fuel Adjustment

Fuel Adjustment

Walters Recycling & Refuse, Inc. is committed to providing superior services as well as attentive customer care. Since June of 2000, we have included a fuel surcharge on your invoices. Due to our inability to control variable changes in fuel costs, and our desire to provide our customers with an equitable, tangible adjustment, we have instituted a fuel index. The fuel surcharge will be adjusted monthly based on the then current weekly U. S. Department of Energy published diesel price per gallon for the Midwest Region prior to the date that your invoice was generated.

We would like to thank all of our customers for their loyalty over the years – we appreciate it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I frequently have extra recycling. Can I get a larger cart?

A. Walters’ recycling service is unlimited and we will always pick-up any recycling you have out on your recycling day.

Q. I want to recycle cardboard boxes, but can’t fit them all in my recycling cart. What do I do?

A. Cardboard boxes can be flattened and tied into bundles no more than 3 feet by 3 feet by 1 foot tall and placed next to your recycling cart. There is no charge for additional recycling.

Q. What time should I put my cart(s) at the curb?

A. Please have your cart(s) at the curb by 6:30 a.m. Most people find it more convenient to put them out the night before your pick-up day.

What happens if I forget to put my cart(s) out?

Please call our office as soon as possible. We will do our best to come back the same day to pick-up your garbage. If this is not possible, we may need to arrange to come back when our truck is in your area again.

Q. My cart is broken. What do I do?

A. Please call our office to arrange for your cart to be replaced. There is no charge for carts needing replacement due to normal wear and tear.

Q. I had someone come to my door and try to get us to switch to another company. How can Walters help?
A. Please let us know as soon as possible. We would be happy to help you “decipher” the offer you were given and explain the differences in service. Beware of offers that are too good to be true!

Q. What type of yard waste is acceptable?
A. Leaves, grass clippings, weeds, brush and small branches. Branches must be 3 feet or less in length and tied in bundles no more than eighteen inches in diameter.

Q. Can I put my yard waste in plastic bags?
A. No. We are not able to pick-up your yard waste in plastic bags. If you put your yard waste at the curb in plastic bags, our driver will have to debag each bag and leave the bags for you to dispose of. There will be additional charges  per bag for this process (in addition to our annual fee) for this service.
