Every day, Americans throw away enough trash to fill about 65,000 garbage trucks. That is close to 25 million tons of trash in one year. With recycling, we’ll help you reduce the negative impacts on the environment while also providing an easy way to keep your community clean. Walters can provide your business with cardboard/paper recycling as well as Single Sort co-mingled recycling. The Minnesota Legislature recently expanded recycling requirements to Commercial Buildings, effective January 1, 2016.
Are you impacted?
If you are the owner of a commercial building that meets the following criteria, you will need to have recycling collection:
- Located in Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, or Washington county
- Contains one or more businesses classified in sectors 42 to 81 under the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS codes)
- Contracts for four cubic yards or more per week of trash collection
What must be collected?
A minimum of three recyclable materials must be collected. Possible material types include, but are not limited to:
Single-Sort recycling (collecting multiple recyclable material types in one container) meets the requirement, as long as three (3) or more materials are included in the collection.

Walters Recycling & Refuse, Inc. is committed to providing superior services as well as attentive customer care. Since June of 2000, we have included a fuel surcharge on your invoices. Due to our inability to control variable the changes in fuel costs, and our desire to provide our customers with an equitable, tangible adjustment, we have instituted a fuel index. The fuel surcharge will be adjusted monthly based on the then current weekly U. S. Department of Energy published diesel price per gallon for the Midwest Region prior to the date that your invoice was generated.
We would like to thank all of our customers for their loyalty over the years – we appreciate it!
